Miami string quartet
The Miami String Quartet is currently the resident ensemble of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society II and has spent recent seasons performing extensively throughout the United States, Europe and South America. Highlights include concerts in New York (Merkin Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall), Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Boston. International tours have included stops in Paris, Cologne and Montreal.
Last season, the Quartet embarked on a tour with the Chamber Music Society of Santa Fe and participated in a national Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center tour. For the last several years, the Miami has served as the resident ensemble at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival in Ohio, as well as appearing at the Mostly Mozart, Ravinia, La Jolla and Music at Angel Fire Festivals. The Quartet is also the resident ensemble of the Virginia Waterfront Festival and the Quartet-in-Residence at Florida International University.
The Miami’s interest in new music has led to many commissions and premieres including the works of Augusta Reed Thomas, Petris Vasks, Bruce Adolphe, Philip Maneval, Maurice Gardner, and David Baker. In his forty years before the public, Jaime Laredo, has excelled in the multiple roles of soloist, conductor, recitalist and chamber musician. Since his stunning orchestral debut at age eleven with the San Francisco Symphony, he has won the admiration and respect of audiences, critics and fellow musicians with his passionate and polished performances.
Last season Mr. Laredo appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Cincinnati Orchestra. In recent seasons, he and his wife, cellist Sharon Robinson, premiered Ned Rorem’s Double Concerto and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s Double Concerto. Previous conducting appearances include the Indianapolis Symphony, Helsinki and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras. As Artistic Director of New York’s renowned Chamber Music at the Y Series, Mr. Laredo has created an important forum for chamber music performances which has developed a devoted following. A founding member of the Kalichestein-Laredo-Robinson Trio and a principal figure at Marlboro Music in years past, he has also performed at Tanglewood, Ravinia, Mostly Mozart, and Aspen as well as festivals in Italy, Spain, Finland, Greece and Israel. Mr. Laredo has recorded over 40 CDs and has been afforded seven Grammy nominations.
